What happens when you rewrite what a young woman believes is possible for her life? Sometimes, it begins with a kitchen.

A better equipped kitchen. A modern laundry facility. The opportunity to train with equipment that she will encounter in the professional world.

But what begins as an improvement to a training facility can become something much bigger: confidence, competence and a new vision of what her future can hold.

On 17 September 2026, Kibondeni College officially handed over its newly improved kitchen and laundry facilities, made possible through the generous support of M-PESA Foundation.

For Kibondeni, this was much more than the opening of improved facilities. It was a celebration of possibility.

Rewriting what is possible

During the handover, Anne Eriksson, Trustee of M-PESA Foundation, spoke about rewriting possibilities. Her words captured the heart of what this partnership means to Kibondeni and the young women we serve.

Many of our students come from backgrounds where opportunities have not always been easy to access. For some, a career in hospitality is not simply about getting a job. It is about changing the trajectory of their lives and creating opportunities that can extend to their families and communities.

That journey requires more than a certificate. It requires exposure. It requires practical skills. And it requires the confidence to walk into a professional environment and know that you belong there.

The improved kitchen and laundry facilities help make that possible.

Our students now have an even stronger opportunity to learn using facilities and equipment that reflect the standards they will encounter in the hospitality industry.

They can practise. They can make mistakes. They can learn. They can perfect their skills. And eventually, they can walk into the industry and recognise the environment around them.

They have seen it before. They have used the equipment before. They know what is expected of them. That familiarity can make all the difference.

Preparing women for the world beyond the classroom

At Kibondeni, we believe that hospitality education must prepare students for the realities of the workplace.

Hospitality is a demanding industry. It requires technical ability, discipline, precision, professionalism and an understanding that every detail matters.

Today, a young woman trains in an improved Kibondeni kitchen. Tomorrow, she may be leading a professional kitchen.
